- International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA): Te Paea Paringatai from
New Zealand is the newly elected President for the 2025-2027 term. The organization was established in 1927 as an international nongovernmental organization, with its headquarters in The Hague since 1971.
Vicki McDonald is the current President and Sharon Memis is the Secretary General. - American Library Association (ALA): Sam Helmick has been named ALA President for 2025-2026.
Helmick, who is the community and access services coordinator at Iowa City Public Library, will
immediately begin their duties as president-elect. This follows Raymond Pun, who was elected to lead the ALA in 2025-2026, stepping down last month for health reasons. Under ALA bylaws, the ALA Council
was required to act. Maria McCauley won the 2026-2027 ALA presidency. Her term will be for 2026
2027, and she will assume the role of President in 2026, taking over after Cindy Hohl’s term as President
ends in 2025. Maria McCauley is the Director of Libraries, Cambridge Public Library, Cambridge. - Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP): The current president of
CILIP is Sue Lacey Bryant, who took on the role in 2025. She will be followed by Carryl Allardice, who
will become the vice president in 2025 and then president in 2026, according to Arts Professional. - UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization): The current Director
General of UNESCO, who effectively functions as the president, is Audrey Azoulay. She was re-elected
for a second term in 2023. - Indian Library Association (ILA): Dr. Pardeep Rai is the President, and Dr. Dharam Kumar is the
General Secretary. The Indian Library Association has been serving library professionals since 1933. - Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS): Prof. Ramesha is the
current President, and Prof. Srinivasa Raghavan is the Vice-President. - Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC): The current IASLIC

Current Affairs and Events: - Special Libraries Association (SLA) Dissolution: The Special Libraries Association (SLA), a global
organization supporting information professionals and specialized librarians, announced on March 26,
2025, that it would begin a dissolution process after 116 years of service. This decision was made after
careful evaluation of the organization’s financial sustainability and the evolving needs of the profession.
Hildy Dworkin, President of SLA, stated that the decision was not made lightly. - Librarian of Congress: President Donald Trump reportedly fired Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla
Hayden. An email obtained by the Associated Press, sent on the evening of Thursday, May 8, from Deputy Director of Presidential Personnel Trent Morse, stated, “Carla, on behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I
am writing to inform you that your position as the Librarian of Congress is terminated effective
immediately.” - IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2025: The 89th IFLA General Conference
and Assembly will be held from August 18-22, 2025, in Astana, Kazakhstan. The theme of the congress
is “Uniting Knowledge, Building the Future.” - 10th IFLA Green Library Award 2025: The shortlist for the 10th IFLA Green Library Award 2025 will
be announced in August 2025. - NACLIN 2025: The 28th National Convention on Knowledge, Library and Information Networking
(NACLIN 2025) will be held in Pune. Details will be available soon. The 27th National Convention on
Knowledge, Library and Information Networking (NACLIN 2024) was held from September 25-27, 2024,
at Hotel Sayaji, Indore, on the theme “Smart Libraries: Inspiring, Engaging, Enabling and Connecting
Users, Communities for Building Knowledge Societies.” - CALIBER 2025: The 14th International CALIBER conference is scheduled for November 17-19, 2025.
It is jointly organized by INFLIBNET Centre and Sri Venkateswara University, and the venue is Sri
Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. The conference theme is “Library 2047:
Democratizing Knowledge towards Viksit Bharat”. Important dates include: Submission Deadline: May

Date: November 17-19, 2025. - IASLIC 34th All India Conference 2025: This conference is set to take place at the Allama Iqbal Library,
University of Kashmir, Srinagar, during September 16-18, 2025. The IASLIC 30th National Seminar 2024
took place in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, from November 21-23, 2024, organized by the Department of
Library & Information Science at Aligarh Muslim University, and focused on “Information Literacy for
Developing Enlightened Library/Information User Community in New Age”. - 70th Annual Conference of the Indian Library Association (ILA): This conference was held from
March 19-22, 2025, at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. The theme of the conference was - PM-One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) Initiative: The “One Nation One Subscription” (ONOS)
scheme is effective from January 1, 2025. It was approved by the Union Cabinet as a Central Sector
Scheme on November 25, 2024, and Phase I is scheduled to run from 2025 to 2027. A total of ₹6,000
crore has been allocated for the PM-ONOS initiative, covering three years—2025, 2026, and 2027. This
funding will cover subscription charges for all participating institutions across the three-year period.
Furthermore, ONOS will also provide central funding support of Rs. 150 Crore per year for beneficiary
authors to publish in selected good quality Open Access (OA) journals. ONOS phase I, starting from
January 1, 2025, will provide access to over 13,000 journals for more than 6,300 government academic
and R&D institutes, including central and state government universities and colleges, translating to nearly 1.8 Crore students, faculty, and researchers getting access to high-quality research publications. - World Book Capital 2025: UNESCO has named Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as the World Book Capital for
